The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
